2017 marked another exciting and informative year for women engaged with Women, Land & Legacy (WLL) and other programs supporting women landowners and farmers in Iowa. Our local WLL teams reached over 900 individuals through nearly 30 events state-wide. Four new counties, Emmet, Palo Alto, Mahaska and Marion joined the program and new counties started the process to join in 2018.
Our events ranged in diversity of topic, reflecting the diversity of interests and needs throughout the state. We saw Tama Co. celebrating their 30th event, which was on beekeeping, while Madison County held their first formal event touring a local vegetable farm. Other topics across the state covered grain marketing, beginning farmer support, and farm safety.
We also saw common themes in programming with teams focusing on conservation, estate planning and land transition, topics that are central to so many of the women and farm families we meet.
Consistent throughout all events state-wide were opportunities for women to come together to share their stories, learn from one another, and find new information from agencies and other community partners. We’re looking forward to more connections being made in 2018. Stay tuned to our Facebook page and website calendar to find events near you. Enjoy!
